We love to use puff paint when we color! Puff paint has a really fun texture and is opaque, which allows you do a lot with this medium that most other mediums can't. As puff paint is not a very well-known medium, this post explains what puff paint is, how to use puff paint, tips and tricks for using puff paint, and a few ideas for using puff paint in your coloring.
Coloring with Puff Paint
What is Puff Paint?

Puff paint is a mostly unknown medium for coloring that makes your art POP off the page! It is one of our favorite mediums to use because of its unique texture! Puff paint for coloring usually comes in a pen, and while there are other types of puff paint, this is the kind we use and recommend for coloring.
Where to Buy Puff Paint

Puff paint is not usually found in stores, so the best place to buy puff paint is online. There are a few different brands of puff paint out there, but for the best variety of colors, we recommend Dong-A's 10 color pack. It is one of the few packs that come with a white puff pen, which is one of the colors we use the most!
You can buy Dong-A's Puff Paint Pens on Amazon!
How to use Puff Paint

Using puff paint is easy.
Squeeze and move your pen on the paper to add the puff paint to your page.
Add heat to puff the paint. To do this, I use a heat gun I bought on Amazon.
Done! Once it puffs up and changes color slightly, it's done!
Favorite Ways to use Puff Paint
There are so many ways to use puff paint, and it can be a great addition to any page!
1. Outlines

As puff paint pens are opaque, it can be fun to color over the coloring page lines with them!
2. Clouds

Clouds are fun to color with puff paint because they are puffy, and as most clouds are white, it is more fun to color them than leave them blank. So, puff paint is a great option!
3. Snow

Snow is also white, so instead of coloring it a different color or leaving it blank, it is fun to use some white puff paint to create some puffy snow on your page!
4. Fuzzy things

Puff paint is a great option for coloring things that are fuzzy or fluffy because of its unique texture!
5. Coral Reefs

The best medium we have found for coloring coral is puff paint! Its texture makes the coral look bumpy, kind of like coral in a reef might!
Tips and Tricks
There are a couple of tips and tricks that we sometimes use when we use puff paint.
1. The more puff paint and heat you add, the more it will puff.

This seems obvious, but the more heat and puff paint you add, the more your puff paint will puff. Don't heat your puff paint too much, though, as it can burn and turn brown if it is heated too much (only happens if you heat it a lot), and you are heating up the paper too (so be careful)!
2. Layering Puff Paint

If you want to puff your puff paint even more, you can add more puff paint over the puff paint you have already puffed, then add more heat to puff it again. This can allow you to puff your puff paint as much as you want and have different sections of your page puff more than others.
This can also be useful if you want to add multiple colors of puff paint without mixing them.
3. Coloring Puff Paint

Puff paint does not come in as many colors as most mediums, so if you can't find a color you want, you can use white puff paint, then color over it with an alcohol marker.
You can also mix puff paint to get the color you want!
4. Glitter Puff Paint

If you want to add a little sparkle to your puff paint, add some glitter to it before you puff it! The glitter will stick without glue and add a little sparkle to your puff paint!
Different types and sizes of glitter look different with puff paint. Some look great on a princess dress, while others are perfect for ocean waves!
