Snow is white, which can make it difficult to color. You could leave it blank or color it a different color, but there are better options.

Most tutorials for coloring snow include complicated blending that can be difficult for beginners. So this blog is all about three easier, beginner-friendly ways to color snow that look great and do not require any complex blending!

Coloring Snow for Beginners

Puff Paint

Puff paint is one of our favorite ways to color snow. Its puffy texture is different from every other coloring medium and makes your art POP off the page. This makes it a great option for coloring puffy white snow! White puff paint is not available in all packs, but it is available in the Dong-A pack on Amazon.

Pro Tip:

If you want puffy snow and sparkly snow, you can add glitter to your puff paint before you puff it!

Where to Buy:

Puff paint is not usually available in craft stores, but it is available on Amazon.

Glitter

Glitter is another great way to color snow! If you are coloring a page with a lot of snow on it, glitter is a good option because it can cover large areas more easily than puff paint. Glitter also adds a really pretty sparkle to your page! The easiest way to add glitter to your page is by using glitter pens or glitter markers. But if you want your snow to be really sparkly, glue-on glitter adds the most sparkle to your page!

Pro Tip:

To make your snow look bumpy, add glue unevenly to your page before adding glitter!

Where to Buy:

Glitter is available in most craft stores and on Amazon.

Embossing Powder

Embossing powder is not usually used in coloring, but it can be a great way to color snow too! It is shiny and smooth, and its different texture allows it to show on the page no matter what color you use. Embossing powder is a little more difficult to use than both puff paint and glitter, but it is still much easier than blending for beginners.

Pro Tip:

When using embossing powder, especially if you are using embossing powder on the same page as puff paint or glue, starting with the embossing powder is a good idea. You have to heat up embossing powder for it to work, similar to puff paint, but it takes a lot more heat than puff paint does. To avoid burning your puff paint or affecting the glue on your page, it is best to emboss first.

Where to Buy:

Embossing powder is available at some craft stores and on Amazon.
